DETAIL VIEW: Zoo Tree
| Zoo Tree, is based on one of several sketch/value plans I accomplished during a trip to Honolulu, Hawaii. Another painting on the web site, Three Random Colors, is from the same time period. One fine morning when almost everyone else visiting the Honolulu Zoo photographed the animals I sketched this tree. I was taken by the free forms of the tree juxtaposed with the more rigid, architectural form of the canopy in the background. I believe the tree is a Brazilian ironwood, considered desirable for street and park, planting, rare in Hawaii, and introduced from Brazil. |
