"I believe the critiques were a great help. It's always interesting to see what each person paints after watching a demo, then seeing one's work come alive on paper!"

Dianne is a multi-talented artist who courageously transfers learned skills from one area of expertise to another! Dianne also helped us coin a new painting word ... "putzy!" Has there every been a painter - of any era - who has not produced a few "putzy" paintings? Dianne's energy and determination to succeed at whatever she does is mirrored by the fact she spent ALMOST every available minute of the weekend painting ... including into the wee hours of the morning!

"I had not tried landscapes before ... (this was) good practice in not creating a photograph."

This was Dan's first watercolor workshop, but - I hope - not his last! Here he displays total concentration and focus during the process of developing a preliminary shape/value sketch. As it turned out the sketch was surely worth the effort. Our painting group agrees Dan came up with an exceptional painting on Sunday!

All of us grew to admire Dan's ability to "focus," as well as the enormous amount of energy and joy he brought to his work. It rubbed off on everyone! Frankly I felt privileged to be sharing a pivotal moment, with someone who most certainly has potential for future success in the arts!

"The paint-outs were great. The explanation and instruction most helpful, as were the critiques."

During the lunch break, Renne contemplates her next approach. Renne showed an original, lyrical painting style. Renne also has an admirable determination to "apply" the information covered in the workshop and critique period, including overcoming temporary "setbacks" inherent in the process of painting. As a result she was able to reach a successful conclusion with this painting!

"This was my first workshop. The demo helped me get motivated, the social hour was nice and friendly ... the critique helped me recognize my weak spots."

Terri takes a rest break during lunch! I've had the pleasure of Terri's participation in my watercolor classes for some time now, but this is her first outdoor workshop. She normally works in an abstract or non-representational style - and succeeds at a level that captures the imagination and acceptance of exhibition jurors! This time Terri decides to expand her horizons by working with representational subject matter.

"Because of the workshop I feel very much more motivated.

This is Terri's grand-daughter, Lindsey. It appears talent runs in the family! Lindsey freely imagined a yellow-submarine surfacing in the middle of "my"hip-deep, trout stream! Because of my personal relationship with this particular stretch of water, I would never have dreamed of something so "preposterous!"I was happy to realize Lindsey seemed to take my words about "creativity,"turn them around and ... give ME a lesson in return! Her solid painting was the hit of our Saturday night critique! I can hear the "Fab-Four"now, "We all live in a yellow-submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine!" Some art transcends generations! Up periscope! Thanks for the lesson, Lindsey! "Dive! Dive! Dive!
